In a sense it's like the The Lion, The Witch And The
Wardrobe. On this side is reality, the world as we know it.
Whereas on that side, through a small, obscure opening...
there lies an enchanted land. Outside of time, in another dimension. On
that side is a garden of delight, a musical nivana, a land designed
exclusively for you to have the best time you'll ever have, Step, if you
will, through the rear of the Wardrobe. Let use enter that place
party-goers have come to call...WIGGLE.
From a typically
shambolic birth in March '94 resulting in a last minute venue change to
a disused scout hall in camden town, to it's humble beginnings at
Brixton's 414 club, Wiggle has long held a special place in the hearts
of the UK underground community while ascending the height's to it's
present incarnation, being responsible along the way for the birth of a
sound that now dominates mainstream clubbing. Held initially on a
monthly basis at a variety of often secret locations and promoted
strictly through word of mouth, the club has grown and developed through
it's policy of promoting the original etho's of the acid house movement;
it's sound system booms, the decor is wild, it's atmosphere
unpretentious, where absolutely everybody is having a great time and
with it’s own unique sound of deep house and techno stepping out and
getting hammered. Wiggle is a night like no other and has consistantly
been ahead of it's time in a whole host of ways.
Frequently
Quoted as London's best night out and proclaimed the most exciting club
in the UK by the likes of Muzik magazine(second in Muzik’s Clubs of ‘97)
and Jockey slut; "not only has Wiggle captured, promoted and evolved a
style of music indigenous to its own immediate environment but retained
a hefty wallop of the Acid House sparkle from which it was born" (Jockey
Slut, Nov '97). The consistently evolving and exciting Wiggle brings
together a fiercely loyal and familiar collection of party-goers who
continue the vibe that was created in '88 and '89 at such legendary
clubs like RIP on Clink Street and Voodoo at The Dungeon. The authentic
ultra-fluent house sound created by residents Nathan, Terry and Eddie
leaves no one in any doubt as to the musical credentials of the club or
it's ability to create a tremendous feeling of solidarity among it's
regulars.
The sound of Wiggle is sublime, transglobal, deep,
rich, smooth and mesmerisingly transfixing. This unique London sound
found its origins in part as an extension of Chicago house and Detroit
techno through a distinctly British lens by artists like Eddie Richards
and Terry Francis. As it evolved, a younger crop including Nathan Coles
and The Impossible Beings found their sounds being increasingly
championed in London clubs like Mr. C's The End and Fabric. This
ever-evolving sound; a battle-ready, foot-friendly continuous mix is a
sound that is a more stripped-down take on house, using more
synthetic-techno style sounds as opposed to the sampled disco and vocals
of regular house. It is the only genre that celebrates the union of
multiple styles of dance music. Rather than define itself in a vacuum by
microscopic changes in tempo and technique, Tech house marries the brute
force and energy of techno with house music's raw wiggle and jiggle; a
sweaty, bouncy amalgam of the best dance music has to offer. It's the
empowering bump coming from a club where a perspiring, sweaty,
mascara-strewn crowd revere the chest-seizing sounds over a posh
interior.
Regular Wiggle guest's include Richard Grey, Mr C,
Mathew 'Bushwacka' B, Dave Mothersoul, Rob DeRosa, Pure Science. J. Jeff,
Asad Rizvi and The Freaks to name but a few. Click on the guest menu above to see

Wiggle currently
resides at Fabric on a bi-monthly basis while looking at new venues to
host the club, as well as featuring special "one off" events in Croatia
and frequent Wiggle tours of America. Wiggle proudly enter's it's 13th year with
a Wiggle CD being launched on the Fabric label and a west coast US wiggle tour scheduled,
including dates in LA.
it only feels like yesterday that we were celebrating our last
birthday and here we are again, ready to belt out another
very messy birthday knees up for one and all! This time we are
using a new venue to Wiggle in and a lovely spot it is
too! The Corsica Studios has two rooms, with fantastic Funktion
One sound system and an outside cocktail bar, for the
smokers amongst us. We will be joined this time by the "Sizzle"
gang, who know how to throw a good shindig themselves
and have already had a party at the Corsica studios and had a
jolly old time of it there as well! Also along with the usual
suspects, Terry, Eddie and myself, Adam Ryan from "Love Stick"
will be warming things up nicely for us!
So what better way to destroy a few more brain cells, than to join
us and celebrate our 13th year of Wiggling London!

Here's the Wiggle CD press release from Fabric...

When Terry Francis and Nathan Coles started throwing parties, it was
pretty much a reaction to their circumstances. Already committed to
London’s fledging acid house scene, and both influenced by rare
groove and up-tempo soul, they wanted to do something off their own
backs, just for their mates, with DJs they liked. Over a decade later
the pair are still in the rudest health, noising up nightclubs with
that same simple ethos, while Wiggle – the catch-all term covering
record label, clubnight, artist name and attitude – has also come to
typify a style of music; a deep, druggy basement-shaking sound that
nicks techno’s swagger and steals house’s smile. DJing together all
over the world, the pair are bang in the middle of an industrious
community of producers, all excelling at making music to escape in
and get down to. ‘Fabric 28’ – the first time the Wiggle sound has
been captured on a compilation - is a statement-making mix, as fun,
involving and unfussy as Francis and Coles themselves.
